Dedicated iMessage number for your application
Compare a shared test line with a dedicated production number. Confirm provisioning eligibility, inventory, number control and migration terms before rollout.
Dedicated means an assigned line
A dedicated number is assigned to your workspace rather than shared through a platform pool. It can provide a stable receiving line for customer conversations. Assignment is distinct from contractual ownership or port-out rights; verify those terms.
Comms Free and Plus use shared platform lines. Dedicated is the published $200/month plan with $0 setup. Choose the plan by the workload and number lifecycle you need, not by assuming a shared test number is a dedicated production identity.
| Plan | Price | Line and conditions |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Shared platform line; 100 messages per day. Start testing without a card. |
| Plus | $50/month | Shared platform line; unlimited messages subject to spam prevention and line health. This is not a dedicated number. |
| Dedicated | $200/month, $0 setup | A dedicated number. Number choice depends on inventory; API claiming requires workspace approval. Unlimited messages, up to 7,000 a day per line; add a line for more. |
| Enterprise | Custom | Discuss volume, geographic coverage, routing, security review, support, and rollout requirements. |
Provision only after the API succeeds
API line claiming requires workspace approval and available inventory. A denied claim returns line_claim_not_allowed; unavailable inventory returns no_available_line.
Use available inventory to pick a supported E.164 number. Number and area-code choices depend on inventory. A claim response contains e164, inbound_mode and status. Persist the number and configure inbound routing after success.
Handle denied access and unavailable inventory as pending onboarding states.
Confirm capability on the actual line
RCS requires a supported dedicated line, carrier enablement, and a compatible recipient. Sending currently supports one plain-text message to an E.164 phone number.
Acceptance is not delivery. Delivery and read events depend on the channel, line, recipient, and available receipts. SMS does not provide read receipts.
Dedicated messages are unlimited, and one line carries up to 7,000 a day. Sends past that fail with dedicated_line_daily_cap until midnight UTC; add a line for more volume.
Define migration and offboarding
Porting requires approval and a supported number. Confirm port-in, port-out, geographic availability, fees, and timing before planning a migration. You can cancel replacement setup before submitting the transfer; a submitted transfer cannot be canceled from the setup panel.
Confirm supported countries, number retention, fees and port-in/out conditions in the agreement. Do not promise a migration of personal account state or historical chats. Revoke credentials and pause automation before moving or reassigning a line.
Test send, reply and tenant isolation
Run the Node.js example in a test workspace. Prove that inbound replies route to the right line and conversation, webhook replays do not repeat processing, and human takeover pauses automation. Test two tenants before provisioning numbers for a SaaS rollout.
